The Rules and Ranks!!!

Post  King of Hearts on Wed Aug 20, 2008 4:35 pm

Rules for Outside the RP Forums:

Everyone should act civil, mature, and respectful toward one another. You may under no circumstance fight with, belittle, troll, provoke, or insult another member, whether they’re old members, new members, or staff. On this note, sarcasm should be used with due caution.

Signature images must be no larger than 500 x 150 pixels and/or 100 KB. You’re allowed as many individual images as you like, so long as their combined size is less than or equal to both restrictions. We have a two-strike rule with signatures; first time is a warning, second time you lose it for good!

Plagiarism is a bannable offense. Melding Melodies will not tolerate people who steal other people's artwork, music, writing, or ideas. If you have source materials or inspirations that seem to "copy" another persons work--please give credit where it is due. Take pride in your own work, not in somebody else's.

Non-RP sections of Melding Melodies are rated "PG" by default. "Damn", "hell" and "crap" are allowed anywhere; however, NO OTHER profane words are permitted around MM. The only exceptions to this rule are the Treble Café forum and all roleplaying forums. (These are both exempt completely).

We require acceptable grammar, spelling, and punctuation from all of our members at all times. “Acceptable" means that errors and typos are okay... but only to a point. If you never proof read your posts, use shorthand or 1337, or if you type in any way that makes your writing difficult to comprehend, we will bite you. Hard.

Double posting is not allowed. There is simply no reason for you to ever need two consecutive posts in any one thread! The edit button loves you, so please, love it back!

Always, always, always save your work! Whether finished or in progress, we consider it vital that you remember to save all of your roleplays, character profiles, and/or anything else you’ve worked hard on. We do everything in our power to keep MM bug-free and happy, but problems can happen, and if they do, we want you to be prepared! The easiest way to save your work is to use the “Print View” feature located at the very top of every thread, right under the “New Topic” and “Reply” buttons. From there, you can easily copy and paste the file into a word processing program or save the page’s source all together. In a couple of years you’ll be glad you have the ability to look back on everything!!

Roleplaying Rules!

Act courteous toward your fellow roleplayers. Think of every roleplay you enter into as a commitment of sorts. Please try to avoid keeping your partners waiting, or bolting all together without informing them. It’s important to be up front and honest about things such as how long you take to post, how many other roleplays you’re juggling, and how easily you may lose interest.

Emoticons are so very, very banned! It’s laughable we even need to mention this, but no, you may NOT use emoticons in your roleplays! Are we respectable writers here or not?

All roleplays must have a rating attached to their title. Our rating system is more-or-less ripped off that of the MMPA. "G" threads are as innocent as possible; "PG" threads contain very slightly offensive material (minor profanity, cartoon violence), "PG-13" threads contain material clearly unsuitable for children (minor references to sex or drugs, excessive mild profanity, indescript violence), "R" threads contain material unsuitable for most teenagers (excessive profanity, descriptive violence, on-screen sex or drug use), "NC-17" threads contain blatantly offensive material (graphic sex or violence), and "X" are more-or-less gore and/or sex without much plot to justify either. Each and every one of these are welcome at MM... just make sure to rate ‘em for us!

X-Rated roleplays are allowed in the Private Roleplays forum ONLY. We do not want to give the wrong impression to newcomers and to the rest of the staff. If you would like to create an X-Rated roleplay, you must find a specific partner that agrees with your style of roleplaying and do it in the Private Roleplays forum. Do not threaten the rest of our forums with it.

Roleplay posts must be of a minimum quality. All roleplay posts must be a minimum of four sentences long; there is no maximum. In addition to this, all posts are expected to have near-perfect grammar, spelling and punctuation.

Respect every style of roleplaying. Some of our members enjoy writing shorter posts at a swift pace, while others prefer a slower pace with long, novel-like posts. It's important to remember that both of these styles are legitimate and require skill; neither is better than the other in any way. If a certain style bothers you, keep this in mind when picking your roleplaying buddies, as under NO CIRCUMSTANCE may you attempt to force your style on someone else! MM prides itself upon allowing a free-reign environment for everyone, after all.
